Total movies seen: 53
Movies watched on New Year's Day 2007: 3
Movies seen during our 10-day trip to Europe (on flights and on cruise): 6
Movies seen during the 15-week fall semester: 5
Best movie seen in the theatre: No Country for Old Men, although Bourne Ultimatum is an awfully close second (which I am looking forward to re-watching when we receive it for our anniversary).

All-in-all, a pretty good movie year. What did I miss this year that I really should check out?

My favourite movies of this year are as follows. I’d strongly recommend them all to you. (I’m a little uncertain how you’d enjoy The Jane Austen Club, but I can’t shake the feeling you are a Jane Austen fan, for some reason.)

300 – Adaptation of the comic
Amazing Grace – political drama
Beowolf – It was fantastic in 3D, apparently not as good in 2D.
Bridge to Terebithia – teenage angst
Freedom Writers – In the inspiring teacher genre
In the Shadow of the Moon – Interviews with the lunar astronauts
Meet the Robinsons – fun cartoon
Sunshine –Obscure Sci Fi Thriller
Surf’s Up – Amazingly cool cartoon with character development
Waitress – Quirky, recommended as it has Nathan Fillan (Mal of Firefly) in it
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – (though my least favourite of them so far)
Stardust – adaptation of the Neil Gaiman work
The Jane Austen Book Club – (romance for Jane Austen fans)

The one that I really want to draw people’s attention to is Sunshine, because I haven’t heard anyone else talking about it. This is a nicely done gritty sci-fi thriller, which either gets the science right, or just manages to fake it very well. (So long as you can cope with the concept that the sun is dying from being eaten by a Q-ball, which I don’t think is ever explicitly stated in the movie.)
